진 제너레이션 the Gene Generation

The Gene Generation is a science fiction feature film based on the comic book "The DNA Hacker Chronicles".
The Gene Generation은 "The DNA Hacker Chronicles"이란 만화책에 바탕한 SF영화이다.
The movie is about a female assassin and her brother who are propelled into a fierce fight for their lives when they cross paths with DNA Hackers. 영화는 여자 암살자와 DNA 해커와 맞닥뜨리며 삶을 위한 피나는 싸움을 벌여야만 하는 그녀의 동생에 관한 이야기이다.
DNA Hackers can change the DNA makeup of living tissue, killing the target.
DNA 해커는 살아있는 조직의 DNA 구성을 바꿀 수 있으며 목표물을 살해한다. 
And all the while, the female assassin only wants to have a better life without violence.
하지만 여자 암살자는 폭력의 사용없이 보다 나은 삶을 추구할 뿐이다.
Overall, The Gene Generation is nothing special. 종합적으로, The Gene Generation에는 특별한 것은 없다.
It has some decent action sequences, but the underlying storyline and premise provide little in means of entertainment. 약간의 액션 장면이 있지만 모호한 줄거리와 오락적 측면에서 전제로 하는 것도 거의 없다.

The movie opens with Jackie (Parry Shen) gambling away the last of his sister's savings.
영화는 누나가 모아둔 마지막 돈을 도박으로 날려 버리는 재키Jackie로 시작한다.
His sister is Michelle (Bai Ling). 누나는 Michele.
She is a skilled assassin and strives for a better place in life.
그녀는 숙련된 암살자이며 삶에서의 보다 나은 위치를 위해 분투한다.
Her dream is to get enough cash to take her brother away from their awful life and find something better.
그녀의 꿈은 끔찍한 인생으로부터 동생을 구출할 충분한 현금을 모으는 것이다.
As Jackie loses the last of the money, he begs the proprietor, Randall (Daniel Zacapa), for a loan.
재키는 가진 돈 전부를 잃었을 때 돈을 빌려준 (도박장 사장인) 랜달에게 구걸한다.
Jackie gets the money and has three days to pay him back or it is his life.
재키는 돈을 빌리지만 사흘안에 갚아야 하고 그렇지 않으면 그의 목숨과 맞바꿔야 한다.
As the clock expires, Randall sends three goons to Michelle and Jackie's apartment.
사흘이 흐른 후, 랜달은 세명의 부하를 미셀과 재키의 아파트로 보낸다.
Unfortunately for them, they find Michelle first, who kills two and takes the third alive.
그들에게는 불행하게도, 두 명을 죽이고 살아 도망치는 세번째 사람을 뒤쫓는 미셀을 그들이 먼저 발견하지만
She drags the goon and Jackie to Randall's place and puts an end to the situation... or so she thought.
그녀는 부하들과 재키를 랜달이 있는 곳으로 끌고가 상황을 끝내버린다..고 그녀는 그렇게 생각했다.
Her actions only pisses off Randall, as he continues go after them.
하지만 그녀의 행동은 랜달을 화나게 했을 뿐이고 랜달은 그들을 계속 뒤쫓는다.

Meanwhile, Michelle and Jackie's neighbor Christian (Alec Newman) is hunted by Solemn (Michael Shamus Wiles), Abraham (Robert David Hall), and Josephine (Faye Dunaway).
한편, 미셀과 재키의 이웃인 크리스찬은 살럼, 아브라함 그리고 조세핀에 의해 쫓기고 있다.
Christian is a DNA scientist who used to work for Josephine and helped her develop technology to manipulate DNA. 크리스찬은 한때 조세핀을 위해 일하며 DNA 조작기술 개발을 도운 DNA 과학자이다.
However, when he found out that Josephine, Solemn, and Abraham intended to use it as a weapon, he destroyed the research and disappeared with the only remaining transcoder (a tool used to initiate DNA hacking). 그러나, 조세핀, 살럼 그리고 아브라함이 그것을 무기로 사용하고자 했을 때 그는 연구물을 파괴해 버리고  (DNA 해킹을 시작할 수 있는 도구인) 마지막으로 남은 변환기를 갖고 잠적해 버렸다.
About this time, Michelle and Jackie get involved. 이때쯤 미셀과 재키는 사건에 휘말리게 된다.
Looking to make a quick buck, Jackie steals the transcoder -- which is eventually stolen by Randall. 
멋진 남자로 다시 태어나기 위해 재키는 변환기를 훔치는데 결국 그것은 랜달이 다시 훔쳐간다.

As the story continues, Christian and Michelle form a special bond as he tells her about DNA hacking and Josephine's horrid intentions. 이야기를 계속하자면, 크리스찬이 DNA 해킹과 조세핀의 무서운 의도에 대해 알려주었을 때 크리스찬과 미셀은 특수한 관계를 형성한다.
She tries to help him recover the transcoder and prevent Josephine from using it for her own agenda.
미셀은 변환기를 되찾고 조세핀 자신의 음모에 사용되는 것을 막기 위해 크리스찬을 돕는다.
Unfortunately, Michelle runs into some roadblocks, such as Solemn and Abraham paying Jackie to recover the device and Randall seeking revenge against Michelle and Jackie. 공교롭게도 미셀은 살럼과 아브라함이 변환기를 되찾기 위해 재키에게 돈을 지불하고 랜달이 미셀과 재키에게 복수하려고 벼르는 등의 장벽에 부딪히게 된다.
She also develops romantic feelings for Christian. 미셀은 또한 크리스찬에 대한 사랑의 감정을 키우게 된다.

Overall, I did not really care for The Gene Generation. 결국, 나는 영화를 높게 평가하지 않는다.
I did not think it had much entertainment value. 오락적 가치가 많다고도 생각하지 않았다.
The storyline was pretty bland and predictable. 스토리라인은 재미없고 예측가능하다.
The notion of DNA hacking is explored, but not in great depth. DNA해킹에 대한 개념은 좋지만 큰 깊이도 없다.
The story focuses on the characters and their emotional states as they strive for better lives.
이야기는 주인공들과 보다 나은 삶을 추구하는 그들의 감정상태에 집중한다.
This aspect could have been toned down a notch. 이런 점이 점수를 떨어뜨렸을 것이다.
As for the characters, they were fairly generic. 주인공들도 꽤나 일반적이다.
Lead actress Bai Ling was a very sexy assassin, but her character's emotional state frequently came off a little too strong -- despite being a crucial element to her development.
여주인공인 BaiLing은 아주 섹시한 암살자이지만 그녀의 캐릭터로서의 감정상태는 그녀의 배우로서의 성장에 결정적 요소임에도 불구하고 때로 너무 강하기만 하다.
The rest of the cast did not bring very much to the table. 다른 등장인물에 대해서는 별로...
For instance, the romance between Michelle and Christian felt lacking, as there was virtually no chemistry between Ling and Alec Newman. In the end, The Gene Generation is not a great movie. 
예를 들면, 미셀과 크리스찬 사이의 사랑은 결말에서조차 사실상 뭔가가 없어 부족하게만 느껴져 괜찮다고 할 수는 없는 영화다.

위 글을 읽기 이전에 이미 보다 말았다.
실사와 그래픽이 어울어진 화면이 어색하기도 하고 왠지 분위기 자체가 시간낭비일 것 같아서이다.
혹시라도 이 글을 보실 분들은 "이런 사람도 있구나~"하고 직접 판단하시면 될 듯...
사실, 포스터에 주인공 밖에 안 보이면 재미없다고 느낄 때 되지 않았나?
