가족과 꿈 중심의 디즈니 제작이다 보니 내용상 다소 작위적인 부분이 있지만
드넓은 우주 속에 우리만 있다면 공간의 낭비라던 '콘택트'의 입장에서 보자면,
적대관계가 아닌,지구와 자신들의 행성도 보호,보존시킬 수 있는 상생相生의 외계인도 존재할 수 있음을
넌지시 알려주는 밝고 건전한 영화라고 해야겠다.
알렉스 박사에게 보여주던 천체영상은 꿈과 희망을 심어주는 가장 디즈니적的인 것이어서 좋았고
'마법의 숲 테라비시아'에서 "마음을 열면 무엇이든 할 수 있다"던 신비한 매력을 보여주던 안나소피아도 역시....

알렉산더 키의 1968년산 SF 소설 ‘이스케이프 투 윗치 마운틴(Escape To Witch Mountain)’을 새롭게 각색한 디즈니사의 가족용 SF 판타지 액션물.

 

키의 원작은 디즈니에 의해 1975년산 동명 영화(국내에는 <마녀의 산>이란 제목으로 알려져있다)와 1978년산 속편이 극장에서 개봉되었고, 1982년에는 속편 TV 영화 <비욘드 윗치 마운틴>과 1995년에는 1편의 동명 리메이크가 TV로 공개된 바 있으니, 이번이 관련한 5번째 영화인 셈이다. 출연진으로는, 프로레슬러에서 액션배우로 변신한 드웨인 ‘더 락’ 존슨(<겟 스마트>, <게임 플랜>)이 잭 브루노 역을 맡았고, 올해 16세의 소녀배우 안나소피아 롭(<비밀의 숲 테라비시아>, <찰리와 초콜렛 공장>)과 17세의 알렉산더 루드윅(<싸인 시커>)가 10대 초능력자 사라와 세쓰 를 각각 연기했으며, <왓치맨>, <스파이 키드> 시리즈의 칼라 구기노, TV <로마>, <뮌헨>의 시아란 하인즈, <보일러룸>, <밴 와일더>의 톰 에버렛 스캇 등이 공연하고 있다. 연출은 ‘더 락’의 전작인 <게임 플랜>과 <쉬즈 더 맨>을 감독했던 앤디 픽맨이 담당했다. 미국 개봉에선 첫 주 3,187개 극장으로부터 개봉 주말 3일동안 2,440만불의 수입을 벌어들이며 주말 박스오피스 1위에 올랐다.

미국 개봉시 평론가들의 반응은 그럭저럭 볼만하다는 반응과 수준이하라는 반응으로 나뉘어졌는데, 후자쪽의 반응이 숫적으로 다소 우세하였다.

 

우선 반감을 나타낸 평론가들로서, 릴뷰스의 제임스 베랄디넬리는 “원작의 스토리는 15년에서 20년 주기로 리메이크 요구가 있을 만한 그런 스토리가 아니다. 더군다나, 리메이크될수록 특수효과와 연기는 나아지고 있지만, 스토리는 전혀 그렇지 않다.”고 공격했고, 보스톤 글로브의 웨슬리 모리스는 “영화가 아니라, 테마파크에 곧 선보일 놀이기구 소개에 가깝다.”고 불평했으며, USA 투데이의 클라우디아 퓨즈는 “이 평범한 가족 영화는 간단히 말해 별 재미가 없다.”고 직격탄을 날렸다. 반면, 합격점을 준 평론가들로서, LA 타임즈의 벳시 샬키는 “빠르고, 격렬하며, 거친 라이드(ride)인 이 영화에서는, 주인공들도 훌륭하고, 악당들도 훌륭하며, 자동차 체이스 씬은 특히 스펙터클하다.”고 만족감을 나타내었고, 할리우드 리포터의 커크 허니컷은 “디즈니의 최고 액션 영화중 한편인 이 영화에는 액션과 SF 스릴이 훌륭히 혼합되어 있다.”고 호감을 전했으며, 디트로이트 뉴스의 톰 롱은 “이 영화는 마법이라 부를 정도는 아니지만, 감동적이다.”고 결론내렸다.

Full Synopsis
During the opening credits, news of UFO sightings around the world appear.
오프닝 크레딧 중에는 세계 곳곳에서의 UFO 목격담에 관한 뉴스가 나온다.

Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a cab driver in Las Vegas, who is picking up and dropping off passengers to the UFO convention at the Planet Hollywood Casino and Hotel.
잭은 승객을 UFO 박람회가 열리는 플래닛 할리우드로 실어나르는  라스베가스의 택시기사이다.
One of his passengers is Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), a failed scientist who is giving speeches about legitimate scientific theories of UFOs and outer space. 그의 승객 중 한명은 인정받지 못하는 과학자로서 UFO와 외계에 관한 적법한 과학이론을 발표하러 가는 알렉스박사이다.

The next day Bruno is approached by two large men telling him that Wolff would like to see him.
다음날, 잭에게 울프가 만나고 싶어한다고 말하는 두 건장한 남자가 다가온다.
 After fighting them, Bruno drives off, later noticing two children, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) sitting in the back seat of the cab.
그들과 한바탕 한 뒤, 잭은 차를 몰기 시작하는데 뒷좌석에 사라와 세스가 있음을 알아차린다.
They tell him they need to go to a certain destination and are willing to pay all they have ($15,000) to get there.
그들은 특정한 목적지로 가야 되며, 데려다 주면 가지고 있는 모든 돈을 기꺼이 줄 수 있다고 한다.
They lead him to a run down house in the middle of nowhere.
그들은 낯선 곳에 있는 다 쓰러져 가는 집으로 이끌고...

Meanwhile, Major Henry Burke (Ciaran Hinds) is searching for information on the two aliens that landed some days earlier. 한편, 헨리버크 소령은 며칠전 착륙한 두 외계인에 관한 정보를 추적중이다.

When they arrive at the house, the children tell Bruno that they will be re-united with their relatives soon.
그들이 낯선 집에 도착했을 대, 아이들은 잭에게 친척들과 곧 만나게 될 것이라고 말한다.
Before leaving Bruno hears a crash coming from the house. 떠나려던 잭은 그 집에서 나는 요란한 소리를 듣는다. 
He is startled to find them hiding behind a couch. 잭은 소파 뒤에 숨은 애들을 찾고는 깜짝 놀란다.
Though grateful for his concern, the children tell him they must continue their journey without him, as they can trust no one. 걱정에도 불구하고 아이들은 아무도 믿을 수 없기에 잭의 도움 없이 여행을 계속해야만 한다고 말한다.
Nevertheless, Bruno decides to follow them, which leads him to the basement of the house.
그럼에도 불구하고 잭은 아이들을 따라 그 집의 지하실로 내려간다.
There the kids are pursued and attacked by a strange creature as they retrieve an object in a plant.
그곳에서 아이들은 식물들 사이에서 어떤 물체를 회수한 후 수상한 존재(사이폰)로부터 추격과 공격을 받는다.
They manage to escape from this creature. 그들은 이 존재로부터 가까스로 도망친다.

When leaving they are attacked by a "Siphon", a creature built to destroy a certain targetin this case the children. 이 아이들과 같은 목표를 파괴시키기 위해 만들어진 사이폰으로부터 공격을 받는데
The Siphon pursues them until it causes a crash of his spaceship into a train, the creature survives, though wounded. 사이폰은 기차와 우주선이 충돌하게 될 때까지 그들을 추격하는데 사이폰은 부상을 입지만 살아남는다.
The trio eventually find themselves in a small town, hiding. 세 명은 결국 숨을 수 있는 작은 마을을 찾는다.
They explain to Bruno that they are aliens from an distant planet, who are sent to Earth by their parents because the government of their dying planet intends to attack and invade Earth so that their kind may live on there. 아이들은 잭에게 자신들은 먼 행성에서  온 외계인들이며, 죽어가는 자기네 행성의 정부가 그 종족들이 지구에 살기 위해 지구를 공격하고 침공할 계획이기에 자신들의 부모가 보내서 왔다고 한다.
They also explain that the object they obtained at the house contains the results of an experiment which their parents set up. The research from this experiment will save their planet without having to attack and invade Earth. However their planet's military prefer the idea of invading Earth and sent the Siphon assassin to stop them. 아이들은 자신들이 아까의 집에서 찾은 물체는 자신들의 부모가 이룩한 실험의 결과가 담겨져 있으며, 이 실험의 결과는 지구를 공격하거나 침공할 필요 없이 자기네 행성을 구할 수 있을 것이지만 행성의 군대는 지구를 침공하고자 하며, 자신들을 저지하고 암살해 버리기 위해 사이폰을 보냈다고 설명한다.
They are next pursued by government agencies trying to retrieve the children for experiments.

그들은 곧 실험을 위해 아이들을 생포하고 싶어하는 정부요원들에 의해 쫓긴다.

They are joined by Dr. Friedman at the UFO Expo, who is familiar with outer space and travel.
그들은 외계와 여행분야에서 유명한 알렉스 프리드먼 박사와 UFO박람회에서 합류한다.
When the Siphon arrives, it prepares to attack but Sara uses her powers to knock him through a wall.
사이폰이 도착하여 공격하려 할 때 사라는 자신의 초능력을 이용하여 사이폰을 벽에 쳐 박아 버린다.
At first the children are captured along with Bruno and Friedman. Nevertheless the two humans escape and come to rescue the kids. 아이들과 잭, 알렉스 모두는 붙잡히지만 잭과 알렉스가 도망쳐서 아이들을 구하러 온다.
The Siphon causes a distraction by attacking the base. 사이폰은 기지를 공격하며 혼란을 일으킨다.
They manage to free the children and reach their ship. 잭과 알렉스는 아이들을 구출하고 우주선에 도착한다.

By running the Siphon over they can escape but the Siphon hangs on and gets on board. 
사이폰과 충돌하여 도망치지만 사이폰은 우주선에 매달려 우주선 내부로 들어온다.
Bruno and Seth battle the Siphon in the lower sections of the ship, unmasking him in the fight.
잭과 세스는 우주선의 아랫부분에서 사이폰의 가면을 벗기며 싸움을 벌인다.
Finally, Bruno defeats the evil alien by knocking him out of the ship's airlock, which kills him.
마침내, 잭은 사이폰을 우주선의 분사구로 내몰아 격퇴시킨다. 

Nothing is mentioned about the fate of Henry Burke, though he was last seen disappointed and upset for his failure and was talking to his boss on the phone, with a possibly of getting fired.
헨리 버크 소령의 운명에 대해서는 언급하지 않았는데, 자신의 실패에 대해 낙담하고 기가 죽어 있던 그는 우두머리와 자신이 파면될 것이라는 통화를 한다.

The kids drop Jack and Alex off and after a tearful goodbye, they head back to their ship, but give Bruno and Alex a device that will allow the kids to always find them. 아이들은 잭과 알렉스를 내려 주고 눈물어린 작별을 한 후, 우주선으로 다시 향하는데, 항상 잭과 알렉스를 찾을 수 있게 해주는 기구를 건네준다.
And Sara gives Jack the power to use his brain to the mind reading ability.
그런 후 사라는 잭에게 뇌를 사용하여 사람의 생각을 읽을 수 있는 능력을 준다.

During the end credits, Bruno and Dr. Friedman (now a couple) are speaking at a UFO convention about their new successful book called "Race to Witch Mountain". 마지막 크레딧에서 (부부가 된) 잭과 알렉스는 UFO 컨벤션에서 "윗치 마운틴으로의 경주"라는 제목의 성공한 새 책에 대해 연설한다.
The last scene shows them driving off in a car Bruno dreamed of getting honestly as he had mentioned to Friedman earliera Ford Mustang similar to that driven by Steve McQueen in ''Bullitt''.
마지막 장면에서 잭이 알렉스에게 먼저 언급했던 꿈에 그리던 자동차인, 영화 "불리트"에서 스티브 맥퀸이 몰던 것과 같은, 포드 머스탱을 모는 것을 보여준다.
As they are about to leave, the device the kids gave Bruno before they left goes off, indicating that they may be returning. 그들이 떠나려 할때, 아이들이 떠나기 전에 준 기구에서는 아이들이 돌아올 것임을 보여준다.
