All his life schoolteacher Frank Sears has carried with him a strange scar given to him by his mother before she committed suicide. 학교 교사인 프랭크 시어즈는 엄마가 자살하기 전에 자신에게 새긴 의문의 자국(흉터)를 평생 지니고 다닌다.

With a ticking nuclear clock, Frank, along with the help of a hazmat specialist Carrie Freeborn, must confront the grim reality that only he is capable of stopping this living hell.
핵 사용 위협이라는 급박함 속에 프랭크는 독극물 전담병 캐리 프리본의 도움을 받아 자신만이 이 생지옥을 멈출 수 있다는 무자비한 현실에 직면한다.

어릴때 엄마로부터 중요한 메시지를 전달 받은 프랭크(Johnathon Schaech).
잊으려고 해 보지만 결코 잊혀지지 않고, 결국 엄마가 근무했다는 군사기지로 찾아가 지하저장고의 위험체에 대해
알리지만 엉뚱한 결과를 낳고 만다. 밀봉되어 있던 미지의 위험체가 되살아난 것이다.
총으로도, 칼로도, 포탄공격에도 끄덕않고 사람을 죽이며 자꾸 성장하는 유기체...
프랭크의 피가 면역성이 있음을 알게 된 기술병 캐리 프리본(Erica Leerhsen)은 함께 퇴치에 나선다.

영화는 나름 재밌다.
하지만, (캐릭터상의 동양인,흑인에 대한) 인종차별과 (백인들의) 멍청함은 여전히 보인다. (←혹시 이것도 인종차별?)
