Set during the height of the First World War, Passchendaele tells the story of Sergeant Michael Dunne (Paul Gross), a soldier who is brutally wounded in France and returns to Calgary emotionally and physically scarred. 영화 "파스샹달"은 치열하던 제1차 세계대전 중의 프랑스에서 부상을 당해 캘거리로 돌아와 육체적으로 상처를 입은 마이클 던 병장에 대해 이야기한다.
While in the military hospital in Calgary, he meets Sarah (Caroline Dhavernas), a mysterious and attractive nurse with whom he develops a passionate love. 캘거리의 군 야전병원에서 그는 신비롭고도 매력적인 간호사인 사라를 만나 그녀와 열정적인 사랑을 하게 된다.
When Sarah's younger asthmatic brother David (Joe Dinicol) signs up to fight in Europe, Michael feels compelled to return to Europe to protect him. 천식을 앓던 사라의 동생 데이빗이 유럽의 전투에 자원입대하자 마이클은 유럽으로 돌아가 데이빗을 보호해야만 하겠다고 느끼게 되는데...
Michael and David, like thousands of Canadians, are sent to fight in the third battle of Ypres, a battle against impossible odds, commonly known as "Passchendaele". 마이클과 데이빗은 다른 수천명의 캐나다군인들과 마찬가지로 승산이 없는 전투이자, 파스샹달로 알려진 이프리스의 세번째 전투로 보내진다.
It is a story of passion, courage and dedication, showing the heroism of those that fought in battle, and of the ones that loved them. 영화는 전투에서 용감하게 싸운 영웅들을 보여주면서 그들이 가졌던 열정과 용기 그리고 (사랑하는 여인에 대한) 헌신을 보여준다.

마이틀 던Michael Dunne(Paul Gross)은 전투에서 부상을 입고 야전병원에서 간호사 사라Sarah Mann(Caroline Dhavernas)를 만나 호감을 가지게 되지만 어린 독일군 병사를 죽인 죄책감으로 후방에서 지원병 모집을 하게 된다.
그러다 사라를 만나 다시 사랑에 빠지지만 사라의 사촌동생 데이빗(Joe DInicol)이 자원입대하자
사라는 그 책임을 던에게 돌리며 비난한다. 이에 마이클은 데이빗을 보호하기 위해 전방으로 자원하는데...
연일 비가 내리는 상태에서 독일군과의 파스샹달 전투에서 부상당한 데이빗을 구하고 마이클은 그만...

1917년 10월26일, 제1차 세계대전 당시, 캐나다군은 파스샹달 전투를 개시했다.
1주일 동안 그들은 5천명의 희생으로 파괴된 마을을 점령했으며,
모든 작전은 4개월째에 종료 되었고, 양측에 60만명의 희생자가 났다고 한다.
다음해 봄, 공격적인 적군은 힘들게 얻은 그 지역을 1주일 내에 재탈환했다.

십자가에 못 박힌 예수처럼 데이빗이 부상당하자 독일군의 총탄을 맞으면서도
사라와의 약속('데이빗 보호)을 지키기 위해 달려가자
결국 독일군들도 총격을 멈추고 그 십자가를 마이클 혼자 힘겹게 지고 나오는 장면은 감동이었다.
결국, 모두가 같은 사람이고 같은 마음을 가진 것인데...전쟁이라니...
