Seven years after the tragic death of her brother Donnie, Samantha Darko (Daveigh Chase) is still mourning him and the loss of the loving family that fell apart after he died.
오빠 Donnie가 비극적으로 죽은 지 7년이 지났건만 Samantha는 오빠와 그의 사후 뿔뿔이 흩어져 버린 사랑하는 가족의 상실에 대해 여전히 추모하고 있다.
Her home life in shambles, 18-year-old Sam impulsively decides to join her rebellious best friend Corey (Briana Evigan) on a cross-country drive from Virginia to California in the hope of becoming a professional dancer. 도살장 같은 그녀의 고향 생활은 18살짜리 Samantha를 전문적 댄서가 되겠다는 희망 속에 버지니아에서 캘리포니아까지 반항아 절친 Corey와 함께 국토횡단 여행길에 동참하게 한다.

When their car breaks down outside tiny Conejo Springs, Sam and Corey are stranded in the hot and dusty town with little money and no connections as they await  the arrival of a new water pump.
그들이 탄 차가 코네호 스프링스라는 촌구석의 외곽에서 고장났을 때, Samantha와 Corey는 무덥고 먼지로 가득한 마을에 돈도,아무런 연고도 없이 새로운 (자동차 수리용) 워터 펌프가 도착할 때까지 기다려야 하는 오도가도 못하는 상황이 된다.
Wild child Corey quickly finds a friend in Randy Holt(Ed Westwick) , the town bad boy, but Samantha is restless and has no interest in socializing. 험하게 자란 Corey는 이내 마을 청년인 랜디 홀트를 친구로 만들지만 Samantha는 이러지도 저러지도 못하고 사교적인 것에는 관심이 없다.
The morning after the girls arrive, a meteorite destroys a local farmer's windmill, leaving a huge crater in its wake. 그녀들이 도착한 다음날 아침, 운석이 마을 농부의 풍차를 파괴해 버리고 그 자리에 커다란 분화구를 남긴다.

Plagued by weird and prophetic dreams that spill over into her waking life, Samantha searches for some kind of meaning in the people around her. 몽유병 환자처럼 돌아다니게 하는 기괴하고 예언적인 꿈에 사로잡힌 Samantha는 그녀를 둘러싼 사람들 속에서 어떤 종류의 의미를 찾기 시작한다.
But she finds only the fanatical religious cliches spouted by Jesus freak Trudy Potter(Elizabeth Berkeley) and Pastor John Mellit(Matthew Davis) of the Born Again Church, the heedless partying of Randy and his friends, and the petty suspicions of small town gossips. 그러나, 그녀는 상투적인 말만 늘어놓는 예수병환자 Trudy와 새로 지어지는 교회의 목사 John, Randy와 그 친구들의 무의미한 파티, 작은 마을의 하급 가십거리를 발견할 뿐이다.

Sam and Corey have a bitter falling out that ends in catastrophe.
Samantha와 Corey는 재앙에 이르게 되는 쓰디쓴 불화를 겪게 된다.
Without realizing it, they become links in an invisible chain that connects them to a missing child, a disturbed by Gulf war veteran Iraq Jack(James Lafferty) and a dangerous hole in time and space.
그 불화를 깨닫지 못한 채, 그들은 실종소년, 종잡을 수 없는 이라크 잭 그리고 시공간의 위험한 구멍과 보이지 않는 고리로 연결되게 된다.

"세상의 종말까지 남은 시간은 4일 17시간 26분 32초"이라며 호기심을 자극하지만
전작을 못 봐서 더욱 모르겠지만, 다 보고나서도 도대체 뭔지 알쏭달쏭하게 만든다.
시공간도 좋고, 시간여행도 좋고, 환상적 미스터리도 좋은데 뭐가 뭔지 구분은 되게 해 줘야 할 거 아냐...

그리고, 가장 중요한 세상의 종말은 어디로 가 버린 것인지?
영화도, 그 홈페이지도 사람을 어지럽게 하는구만!
