A rich lord loves a girl. 부유한 남자가 어떤 아가씨를 사랑한다.
A maid who has seen the two accosts the lord in a park and embraces him.
두 사람(의 애정행각)을 본 하녀가 공원에서 부유한 남자에게 다가가서는 그를 안아 버린다.
This is seen by the girl who calls off their relationship.
이 광경을 아가씨가 목격하게 되고 그들의 관계를 끝내버린다.
The lord decides to commit suicide, but the butler replaces the poison with water.
부유한 남자는 자살을 하려하지만 집사가 독극물을 물로 바꿔
The girl, her love now restored, rushes to what she thinks is the lord's deathbed.
여전히 그를 사랑하고 있음을 알게 된 아가씨는 (편지로 먼저 알리지만 하인을 통해 독극물을 먹었음을 알게 되고
혹시 그것이) 그의 임종일지도 몰라 그에게로 향한다.
(급하게 들어간 그곳에서 아가씨는 급사로부터 자초지종을 듣고,
찰리에게 말해주는데 찰리는 기뻐하면서도 역정을 내며 급사와 왕진온 의사들을 내친다.)

Plot

This early Chaplin film has him playing a character quite different from the Tramp for which he would become famous. 초기 채플린의 이 영화에서는 그를 유명하게 해 준 떠돌이와는 상당히 다른 캐릭터를 연기한다.
He is a rich, upper-class gentleman whose romance is endangered when his girlfriend oversees him being embraced by a maid.
그는 부유한 상류층 신사이지만 하녀가 그를 끌어안는 것을 여친이 보게 되면서 그의 연애는 위험에 빠진다.
Chaplin's romantic interest in this film, Minta Durfee, was the wife of fellow Keystone actor, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle.영화 속 채플린의 연애 대상인 민타 더피는 키스톤 영화사 동료인 로스코 아버클 "패티"의 아내였다.
