양을 돌보며 늑대새끼를 키우던 육심강[オダギリジョー Joe Odagiri]은 군대에 편입된 후,
서역에서의 전투에서 패하고서 부대를 이끌고 눈보라 치는 산길을 지나 하렌족의 마을로 들어간다.
은거하던 집에 숨어 있던 여인[Maggie Q]을 발견한 그는 매일 사랑을 나누며 함께 지내지만
눈이 그치자 마을을 떠난다.
그러나, 사막에서 갑작스런 늑대떼와 마주친 부대는 곧이어 모래폭풍을 만나 대열은 산산히 흩어지고
소수만이 살아남아 다시 하렌마을로 돌아간다.
한편, 황제의 명을 전국으로 전하던 장안량은 늑대떼를 만나 곤경에 처하게 되는데...
눈 내리는 풍경이나 해질녘 대륙의 산천은 아름답지만 영화가 도대체 무엇을 말하고자 하는 것인지 잘 모르겠다.
늑대의 저주가 씌인 하렌족에 의해 늑대가 되었다는 것까지는 연상하겠는데 그게 어쨌다는 것인지....

The trailer is somewhat misleading. 예고편은 다소 잘못된 듯.
Rather than a heroic epic, this is an intimate tale of love and passion (perhaps in reversed order), which is not surprising if you have seen director TIAN Zhuangzhuang's 2002 remake of the all time Chinese film classic "Springtime in a small town".
영웅 서사시라기보다는 (아마도 잘못된 순서에 의해) 사랑과 정열에 관한 뻔한 이야기가 되어 버렸는데 감독의 2002년작 "작은 마을의 봄"을 이미 봤다면 그리 놀랄 일도 아니다.
His painfully slow pace is often too trying for the average audience's patience.
그의 놀랍도록 느린 진행속도는 일반 관객의 인내심을 너무 요구한다.
At least one walked out in the show I attended. 내가 갔던 영화상영에서 최소 한 사람은 나가 버렸다.
The first one-third of the movie is devoted to establishing the main protagonist – a quick-witted but mild-tempered young shepherd's initiation into the brutality of warfare and eventual transformation into a seasoned warrior, all this done in magnificently shot landscapes that are at once splendorous and desolate.

In the last third of the film, the legend finally emerges, with the mist that shrouded the curse lifted, only to bring the audience into a new realm of mysticism.
영화의 나머지 1/3은 늑대에 관한 저주라는 전설이 마침내 이루어지는 것을 안개처럼 보여주는데 신비주의의 새로운 현실화처럼 관객들에게 나타낸다.
Jo Odagiri and Magie Q bring to this movie convincing performances of a relationship that started with raw passion but evolves into something deeper.
오다기리 조와 매기 큐는 이 영화에 근원적 정열로 시작하는 관계의 설득력 있는 연기를 불어넣지만 뭔가 더 깊은 것으로 전개시켜 나간다.
As mentioned, cinematography is something to look forward to.

There isn't much by way of spectacular action but one scene showing a huge wolf pack fleeing from a devastating storm is quite impressive. 스
스펙터클한 액션은 없지만 폭풍처럼 다가오는 늑대 무리 장면은 꽤나 인상적이다.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are more people disappointed than pleased by this movie.
이 영화로 즐거워하기보다는 실망한 사람들이 더 많을 것이라는 것에 놀라지 않는다.
